The movie was shot in Warsaw, Poland at The Soviet Military Cemetery. I used the Soviet Military Cemetery and the five-pointed red star - the symbol of communism, for modern interpretation of the dynamic of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes and their victims. More than 20,000 Soviet soldiers lie in the Cemetery, mostly in mass graves to the left and right of the obelisk. The cemetery was built soon after the war and was officially opened on May 9, 1950.
The project title comes from the State Anthem of the Soviet Union official lyrics (for the 1977 version). The lyrics were written by Sergey Mikhalkov and the music was composed by Alexander Alexandrov.
